Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide liquid crystal spacers and liquid crystal display device which do not generate abnormality in orientation of liquid crystals around the liquid crystal spacers and between the spacers.
CONSTITUTION: These spacers for liquid crystal display consist of particulates having a hydrophobic group RO- and a hydrophilic group exhibitted by formula on at least the surfaces. This liquid crystal display device is constituted by using these spacers. In the formula, R denotes 1 to 18C alkyl group or acyl group. In the formula, R1 denotes 2 to 4C alkylene group and may be substd. with a hydroxyl group; (n) denotes an integer from ≥1 to ≤30.
