PURPOSE: To carry out stabilized running control by suppressing generation of hunting, in a vehicle speed control mechanism for controlling a speed regulating device for an engine.
CONSTITUTION: A speed control mechanism for a running vehicle is provided with an electrically driven motor 15 for which a belt type continuously variable transmitting device 8 is interposed in the transmitting system between an engine 7 and driving wheels and also which makes opening/closing operation for a device 14 for regulating speed of the engine 7, a control device 17 for drive- controlling the electrically driven motor 15, and a speed detecting sensor 13 for detecting running speed of a vehicle. The control device 17 is so constituted as drive-controlling the electrically driven motor 15 only when such a state that a deviation of an actual running speed from the target speed is more than a set value continues for a set period of time, in the speed control mechanism of a running vehicle so constituted as drive-controlling the electrically driven motor 15 so that the abovemention deviation may be reduced.
