Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high strength spherical carbide excellent in dispersibility to a resin and flowability and having very high filling density by carbonizing spherical phenolic resin having a specified particle diameter at a specified temp. in a nonoxidizing atmosphere.
SOLUTION: Spherical phenolic resin having 150-2,000 μm particle diameter is carbonized at ≥500°C in a nonoxidizing atmosphere to obtain the objective spherical carbide having 150-2,000 μm particle diameter. The spherical phenolic resin is obtd. as follows; phenol and aldehyde are brought into condensation reaction in the presence of a dispersant with phenolic resin, glass particles, SiC, mesophase carbon, alumina, graphite, phlogopite, etc., as a nuclear material, the resultant condensation product is aggregated around the nuclear material, formed particles are dehydrated and dried to obtain spherical phenolic resin having 150-2,500 μm particle diameter and particles having ≤150 μm and ≥2,000 μm are removed by sieving the spherical phenolic resin.
