This spinning reel is provided with a pipe-like pinion axis with a pinion 65 and a pinion sleeve 64 rotating according to the rotation of a handle, a pipe-like traverse cam axis 62 connected with the pinion sleeve 64 and provided with a traverse groove 62b on its outer periphery, a main shaft 70 inserted to be rotatable and movable back/forth within the pipe-like pinion axis and the traverse cam 62, the spool 69 rotatably attached to the front part of the main shaft 70, a paw 59 to fit with a traverse groove 62b, a pawl holder 58 fixing this pawl 59 to the main shaft 70, a pawl cap 54 and a metal sleeve 56. When the pawl moves forward along the groove 62b, the spool 69 is made to move forward but when the pawl 59 moves backward, the spool 69 is made to move backward.
