Abstract:
To suppress abrupt transitions in tape thickness of a storage tape wound on a reel affected by the thickness of a splicing tape which is used at a joint section of a leader tape.
The splicing tape 112 is adhesively attached to the joint sections of the leader tape 108 and a data tape 106 which constitute the storage tape 24. The splicing tape 112 has slanted edges 114 and 116, that are slanted with respect to side edges 118 and 120 which are generally parallel in the longitudinal direction of the data tape 106. Deformation of the storage tape 24 is suppressed, and stable writing/reading of data becomes possible since the wound diameter of the storage tape 24 is gradually changed by the action of the slanted edges 114 and 116.
