Abstract:
To provide a method of reducing resistance or drag received by an object, for example, an aircraft by using staggered periodic riblets.SOLUTION: First periodic riblets (110) are formed on a smooth surface (104) of a physical object (100), and then second periodic riblets (120) are formed. Flow is generated on the first and second periodic riblets. Each of first, second and third periodic riblets has a first transition region (145a) positioned at its first end (112, 122, 132) and a second transition region (145b) positioned at its second end (114, 124, 134). Each second transition region (145b) overlaps with each first transition region (145a). A length of each riblet of the first and second periodic riblets is extended in parallel to a direction of the flow.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1B
