To save the manufacturing cost without adding expensive alloy elements by containing C, Si, Mn, P, S, Cr, Ni and Cu of the prescribed wt.% in Fe.
The steel contains, by weight, 0.45-0.60% C, 0.15-0.35% Si, 0.80-1.50% Mn, ≤0.03% P, 0.030-0.065% S, ≤0.2% Cr, ≤0.2% N, and ≤0.2% Cu. The steel is used for manufacturing a connecting rod. The steel is hot forged. That means, the press forging and hammer forging is achieved in the temperature range of 1150-1250°C, and the connecting rod is cooled in the air immediately after the forging, and when the connecting rod is cooled to 500-600°C, the connecting rods are cooled making use of a conveyor and a hanger so that the hot connecting rods are not brought into contact with each other. Hardening, tempering, and heat treatment can be dispensed with thereby.
