To avoid the collision of a steering column with an occupant while restraining the direct backward movement of a steering by forming a steering member of the extruded material, and forming a front side thereof with a high rigid part and a rear side thereof with a weak part, and fitting the high rigid part to a car body, and supporting the steering column with the weak part.
A steering member 4 of the extruded material is provided in an air box E at a cabin-inside side thereof. The steering member 4 is formed with thick high rigid part 4a in a front side thereof, and formed with a thin weak part 4b in a rear side, and a reinforcing rib 4c is provided between them. A rear end of a steering post bracket 5 is connected to the high rigid part 4a of the steering member 4, and the weak part 4b of the steering member 4 is provided with a connecting member 8, and an upper part of a steering column 6 is supported through a bracket 9. With this structure, backward movement of the steering column 6 is restrained small, and the energy of the occupant at the time of collision can be absorbed.
