To provide a steering device for a vehicle capable of being easily stored in an engine compartment by increasing the degree of freedom of design.
One end of a flexible shaft 10 converting the amount of steering of a steering wheel 4 to its rotation about an axis and transmitting the rotation is connected rotatably and the other end of the flexible shaft is connected to a steering angle ratio variable mechanism 12. The flexible shaft comprises a flexible inner shaft and a flexible outer tube slidably covering the outer peripheral surface of the inner shaft. The steering angle ratio variable mechanism adopts a planetary gear mechanism comprising a sun gear, planetary gears, and a ring gear having the annular teeth formed in the inner peripheral surface which are meshed with the teeth of the planetary gears, the shaft of a motor is fixed coaxially with the sun gear, and the flexible shaft is fixed coaxially with the planetary gears. Then, the motor is connected to a control circuit, and the rotating control of the motor is performed by the control circuit.
