To provide a steering device for a vehicle on steer-by-wire system capable of steering certainly even when its electronic control device is in failure using a simple constitution without involving an excessive redundancy.
The steering device is equipped with a changeover device to change over the supply of electric power to a motor 13 from the normal supply line in the emergency supply line 32 when a steering ECU is in failure and a potential difference changing device 40 installed midway of the emergency supply line 32 and capable of changing the potential difference between two current feeding terminals 13a and 13b of the motor 13 in accordance with the steering operation. The potential difference changing device 40 is equipped with a pair of three-terminal type variable resistors 41a and 41b which are put in parallel connection and have movable contacts 42a and 42b connected with the terminals 13a and 13b of the motor 13. The variable resistors 41a and 41b are configured so that the contacting positions of the movable contacts 42a and 42b with the resistor bodies 43a and 43b are variable in compliance with the steering operation.
