A steering system for a vehicle is provided with a steering system control device 50 for controlling a means 13 for generating force for changing a steering angle according to the variate influencing vehicle behavior detected by sensors 3, 9, 51, 52, and a braking system control device 60 for controlling braking force generating mechanism 15 according to the detected variate. Both control devices 50, 60 can execute the same operation, and whether or not at least one of both control devices 50, 60 is in a failure state is judged by whether or not the computed results of both control devices 50, 60 coincide with each other. An alarm means 29 is provided to generate an alarm when at least one of the control devices 50, 60 is in the failure state.
