To provide a step structure for an escalator with sufficient appearance at a surface side of a cleat and excellent productivity.
The step structure for the escalator is provided with the cleat 1 made of a metal plate in which projections 1a formed at its surface side in parallel to a step traveling direction and having a lateral cross section of a trapezoid shape or a crest shape are formed at a predetermined pitch in a direction perpendicular to the step traveling direction; a fixing reinforcement plate 2 in which a pair of slits 2a, 2a are provided at a portion fixed to a back surface side of the cleat 1 and corresponding to the projection 1a of the cleat 1 at a predetermined pitch in parallel to the step traveling direction with a distance for binding inner side wall surfaces 1aa, 1aa of the projection to each other in a direction perpendicular to the step traveling direction and an engagement swelled part 2b is projected/formed at the cleat 1 side between the pair of slits 2a, 2a; a riser; and a frame fixed with these. In the state that the respective engagement swelled parts 2b of the fixing reinforcement plate 2 are fitted to a back surface side of the projection 1a of the cleat 1, a bit having slightly wider width than a gap between the slits 2a, 2a is further driven-in and calked.
