PURPOSE: To securely open/close a wastebasket as intended at every time when treading a pedal by forming a constitution that a pin member is retracted in a track when a lever is rotated and a cover is rotated in the track.

CONSTITUTION: When one wants to open a wastebasket 10, a pedal 26 is pressed and a link arm 30 is raised and a pin 35 is raised until it is engaged with a strut 43 for the opened cover and guided between vertical guide faces 41, 42. Since the strut 43 is located in the upper side than the axis of a hinge-pin member 19 of the cover, when continuing to exert the pressure, the cover 12 is rotated and opened. When the pressure is released, the link arm 30 is lowered and the pin 35 is moved through the opening area 44 to come into contact with a directional indicating face 45 down to the stationary position 49 and reach a position right under the protrusion 48 for the closed cover. When the treading pedal 26 is actuated subsequently, the pin 35 is raised up to the protrusion 48 and the protrusion 48 is raised to reach the opposite side of the axis of the hinge pin member 19 of the cover, and hence, when continuing to exert a pressure, the cover 12 is rotated and returned to the initial closed position.
