When a plurality of stepping motors 8, 11 and 14 go into drive state simultaneously, a decision is made as to whether or not the power supply voltage drops below a specified level which is set, based on a voltage level drivable in a low torque high speed drive mode, and if the power supply voltage drops below the specified level, the stepping motors 8, 11 and 14 which are driven simultaneously are driven in the low torque high-speed driving mode according to a predetermined priority, such that the power supply voltage will not drop below the specified level. Consequently, the stepping motors 8, 11 and 14 can be driven in the low torque high-speed drive mode in accordance with the priority.
