To obtain a new compound useful as a fluorescent whitening agent, esp. capable of giving textile fibrous materials high-level whiteness and high sunlight screening effect.
This new compound is shown by formula I [m is a cation formed from H, an alkali metal, ammonium or amine; R1 is a group of formula II (R3 is NR4R5, etc.; R4 an R5 are each H, a 1-20C alkyl, atc.), etc.; R2 is NH2, N(CH2CH2OH)2, etc.], e.g. a compound of formula III. The compound of formula I is obtained by reaction of cyanuric chloride with aminostilbenesulfonic acid, an amino compound capable of introducing R1 group, and a compound capable of introducing R2 group, respectively, in any order, under well-known conditions. The compound of formula I is capable of absorbing both UV-A and UV-B ultraviolet rays, giving textile fibrous materials such as cotton, polyamide and wool fluorescent whitening effect, and affording sunscreening protection of the skin covered with a textile product treated with this compound. Besides, the tear strength and light fastness of textile fibrous materials treated with this compound can also be improved.
