PURPOSE: To display a moving picture on a part of a still picture in a still picture reproduction device.

CONSTITUTION: A first picture memory 14 for the still picture, into which still picture data for one screen is written, and second and third picture memories 16 and-18 for the moving pictures, into which plural pieces of partial picture data for forming the moving picture are written, are provided. Plural pieces of partial picture data are read from the second and third picture memories 16 and 18 at prescribed time intervals and in a partial picture unit while picture data are read from the first picture memory 14 with a read control function by a first control processor 32 and a screen refresh control circuit 34, and plural pieces of partial pictures are sequentially switched and displayed on a specified area D of a display screen in a CRT display 30 designated with a display area designation function by a key signal memory 20 and a screen switching circuit 26 at prescribed time intervals. Since the specified area D can be changed by the display area control function by a second control processor 36, the display position of the moving picture can be changed to an arbitrary position in the display screen.
