A storage type handrail is provided with a handrail bar 5 which is mounted on a wall surface and turned between the horizontal condition and the perpendicular condition, and a supporting bar 6 which is approached/ separated to/from the wall surface when the handrail bar 5 is turned while keeping parallel to the wall surface, and is brought into contact with a floor surface when the handrail bar 5 is in the horizontal condition and holds the handrail bar 5 in the horizontal condition. A locking mechanism to lock the turn of the handrail bar 5 when the handrail bar 5 is in the horizontal condition is provided inside the handrail bar 5, and a releasing knob of the locking mechanism is mounted on a turning end part of the handrail bar 5.
