PURPOSE: To provide a new styryloxy compound which is low viscosity liquid and can be photocured and forms transparent polymers.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound is represented by formula I [R1, R2 are such that both R1, R2 are H or one of them is H and the other is methyl; R2, R8 are each H, a 1-5 C alkyl, 2-5 C alkenyl, or the other may be R6, a 1-5 C alkyl or 2-5 C alkenyl when R2 is not methyl; R6 is formula II or III (R10 is a 1-5 C alkyl; R11-R13 are each H or a 1-5 C alkyl)], preferably formula V (R9 is formula IV-VII or CH=CH2). The mixture of the monomers capable of forming transparent insoluble films by polymerization is obtained by adding a small amount (preferably, 3-10 wt.% based on total weight) of the compound of formula I to 4-allyloxystyrene. The preferable photopolymerizable composition containing the compound of formula I is comprised of (A) the mixture of A1: 4-allyloxystyrene and A2: the compound of formula I, (B) a divinylether of polyalkylene oxide and (C) a photoinitiator in following ratios; A1:A2=6:1-3:1, A:B=1:1-4:1.
