Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:N-2-biphenylylsulfonyl, N'-(4-methoxy-6-methylpyrimidin-2-yl) urea of formula I.
USE: The compound is useful as an active component for herbicides. It exhibits herbicidal activity against the weeds in paddy field such as toothcup, false pimpernel, Deccan grass, monochoria, etc., is absolutely harmless to paddy rice plant, has excellent safety and exhibits sure effect at a low rate of application.
PREPARATION: The objective compound of formula I can be produced by reacting 2-biphenylylsulfonyl isocyanate of formula II with 2-amino-4-methoxy-6- methylpyrimidine of formula III in a solvent or diluent such as hexane, ligroin, etc., in the presence of a catalyst [preferably 1, 4-diazabicyclo (2,2,2) octane, etc.] at 0W100°C.
