To provide a substrate for a magnetic disk which is high in reliability by suppressing the occurrence of a crash failure even when a magnetic disk is quickly rotated, and which is suitable for a hard disk to be started and stopped in a load/unload system and a magnetic disk using the substrate of the magnetic disk.
A substrate for a magnetic disk is representatively constituted as a discoid glass substrate 10 including: an almost flat main surface 11; an end face 12; a chamfered surface 13 formed between the main surface 11 and the end face 12; and an alienating part formed in a circumference in the main surface so as to be raised with respect to a flat surface other than the circumference, in which the alienating part is formed across the whole periphery of the glass substrate 10, and a pole part raised maximum in the alienating part is disposed with an almost the same distance from the center of the glass substrate 10.
