Title:
SULFONATED AND UNHYDROGENATED COPOLYMER OF STYRENE AND BUTADIENE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3483916
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a new composition unswelling in water which gives a new polymer-modified asphalt composition having storage stability and a low softening point by sulfonating a specific block-copolymer.
CONSTITUTION: The objective composition, which is a copolymer of a (poly)styrene and a (poly)conjugated diene selected from (poly)isoprene and (poly) butadiene, is formed by selecting from linear di-block, linear tri-block and radial tri-block, and is obtained by sulfonating a starting blockcopolymer wherein less than 25% olefinically unsaturated groups are saturated, contains less than 1 wt.% combined sulfur and also a base-neutralized product. The composition is preferably obtained at first by dissolving the starting block copolymer in an inert or non-reactive solvent such as hexane or the like and allowing it to react with a sulfonating agent such as acetylsulfate or propionylsulfate at 25 to 55°C.
