Title:
SURFACE-COATED HARD MEMBER EXCELLENT IN WEAR RESISTANCE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0417662
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To impart excellent wear resistance to a hard member by forming the carbide, nitride and carbonitride of an alloy of Hf and Ti on the member surface in specified thickness.

CONSTITUTION: A hard coating layer consisting of at least one kind among the carbide, nitride and carbonitride of an alloy of Hf and Ti is formed in 0.5-10μm thickness on the surface of a substrate consisting of a hard member. The coating layer can be formed in a single layer or plural layers. If an adhesion promoting layer consisting of at least one kind among the carbide, nitride and carbonitride of Ti is formed in about 0.5-5μm thickness between the coating layer and substrate, the adhesive strength of the hard coating layer is improved. When a surface layer consisting of at least one kind among the carbide, nitride and carbonitride of Ti is formed in 0.5-2μm thickness on the hard coating layer surface, excellent oxidation resistance is obtained at high temp., and the wear resistance is also improved.
