To provide a downsized surface treatment device which is space-saving and makes an efficient use of a processing medium in roughening an outer surface of a workpiece such as a developing sleeve of an image formation device or the like by making magnetic abrasive grains collide with its outer surface.
A magnet coil 8 and a storage tank 9 for the magnetic abrasive grains as the processing medium for roughening processing of a workpiece 2 in the surface treatment device 1 are each equally sized not more than a half of the workpiece 2 and integrated with each other. Roughening processing is performed by reciprocating the workpiece 2 simultaneously in a longitudinal direction after it passes through the magnet coil 8 and the storage tank 9. When the workpiece 2 is attached to or detached from a hollow holding member 32, a distance required to move the workpiece 2 is reduced resulting in space-saving because the sizes of the magnet coil 8 and the storage tank 9 are not more than a half of the workpiece 2.
