Abstract:

To provide a surface treatment method for a shape memory alloy, for securely improving corrosion resistance of the shape memory alloy without deteriorating its shape memory effect and biocompatibility, and can suppress elution of Ni ions causing a metal allergy.

An Ni-containing shape memory alloy is subjected to projection with fine particles having the average particle diameter of 30 to 80 μm, that is, subjected to fine particle peening so as to perform surface modification. As the shape memory alloy, e.g., a Ni-Ti base shape memory alloy is used. Vickers hardness (HV) of the fine particle to be projected is preferably ≥300.
