PURPOSE: To obtain a sustained release composition consisting of a cured product of thermosetting resin composition containing an antimicrobial agent and water soluble plasticizer, capable of gradually releasing the antimicrobial agent at a release rate stabilized when charged into water and having excellent mechanical strength.
CONSTITUTION: The sustained release antimicrobial agent composition consisting of a cured product of thermosetting resin (preferably epoxy resin) composition, containing (A) well known antimicrobial agent used as an algicide, germicide, etc. and (B) water soluble plasticizer, preferably polyethylene glycol at ratios of the ingredient A of 20-80 wt.% and the ingredient B of 3-25 wt.%, preferably 7-15 wt.% based on total composition and having the above-mentioned effects useful in preventing or stopping proliferation of harmful microorganisms such as Chlorophycease or Bacillariophyceae capable of proliferating in water. Furthermore, the antimicrobial agent is preferably used at a weight ratio of 10-90 pts. wt., preferably 30-60 pts. wt. based on 100 pts. wt. epoxy resin.
