PURPOSE: The titled composition, consisting of a carboxyalkylated derivative of chitin, hydrophilic high polymer and a drug, capable of delaying remarkably the elution of the drug regardless of the pH of a solvent and having remarkably improved shape retention in humor.
CONSTITUTION: A subtained release composition consisting of (A) a carboxyalkylated derivative or chitin, e.g. carboxymethylchitin or carboxymethylchitosan, (B) a hydrophilic high polymer, e.g. hydroxypropyl cellulose or polyvinyl acetate, and (C) a drug. The weight ratio of the components (A) to (B) is 98:2W30:70, and a drug forced to be frequently administered for keeping the effective blood concentration or effective local concentration is used as the drug. The amount of the drug to be incorporated is 0.01W50wt% based on the total composition. The above-mentioned composition is formulated into forms of powder, dust, granule, tablet, etc., for oral administration or administration into the oral cavity or local administration into the nasal cavity.
