Abstract:

To allow manufacturers to be in compliance with various civil laws that control distribution of cryptographic functions based on the framework of international cryptology.

A management framework includes four basic elements as a maintenance area approval agency 20, an application area approval agency 22, a host system 16 and a network maintenance server 18, and a cryptographic unit 14, a policy card 12 and the host system 16 are configured by a single integrated circuit in, e.g. a printer. A key element with respect to the execution of the cryptographic function relates to a specific factor of the reliability designated by the approval agency for the cryptographic unit. The functions executed by the cryptographic unit are controlled by a relation service class which denotes the maintenance policy. Concerting both the application and a firmware element in the inside of the cryptographic unit, a concept of touch pointing plays a key roll, in the case of controlling over functioning the modules.
