PURPOSE: To correct an inclination corresponding to the change of the quantity of the inclination due to the movement of an original paper by correcting the inclination of the character pattern data according to the inclination of respective lines based on the detection of a timing mark of the respective lines of the original paper.
CONSTITUTION: The original of an original paper 1 to be moved is read at every one line and stored in a line buffer 8. From this storing content, the addresses of right and left timing marks recorded in both ends of respective lines are detected in right and left timing mark detecting parts 8, 10 and an accordance with the detecting result, an inclination detecting part 11 detects the inclination of the line. According to the output of the detecting part 11, an inclination correcting table 12 is referred through a corrected value selecting part 14, and the inclination correcting information is supplied to a character segmenting part 13 and the inclination of the character pattern data is corrected. Thus, the inclination of the character pattern data corresponding to the change of the quantity of the inclination due to the movement of the original paper can be corrected.
