PURPOSE: To exactly read information by reading the information shown by punched holes from the positions of the punched holes, which are bored as visual information on a magnetic recording card equipped with a recording area to magnetically record data, and correlation data.

CONSTITUTION: When a magnetic recording card 1 is attached to a reader/writer 2, a scale mark read part 21 reads a card scale 12, and a counter 22 counts the number of scale signals. Then, the position data of punched holes 3 according to the scale signals is sent to a data control part 24. Next, a correlation data read part 25 reads out the correlation data from a recording area 11 and sends the read data to the data control part 24. The data control part 24 collates these received position data and correlation data and when the both data are same, the collation is completed. When there is no corresponding frequency data, it is outputted there is abnormality in the punched holes 3 or the correlation data, and a processing such as the ejection of the magnetic recording card 1 or the like, is executed corresponding to the abnormality.
