To provide a system and a method capable of forming a high-resolution damping liquid pattern for ink-based digital printing.
An ink-based digital printing system 200 for printing variable data planographic printing includes: an image forming member 210; and a damping liquid/carrier pattern forming system 220. An ink jet device of the pattern forming system 220 jets a material onto an image forming member. The jetted material contains a damping liquid and a carrier component such as wax jetted in a single phase. When the jetted material contacts a surface of the image forming member 210, the jetted material is cooled, phase separation occurs to the jetted material, the damping liquid penetrates a surface of a solid component on a surface of the image forming member, the solid component is dampened, and an image is formed in accordance with image data input to the pattern forming system 220.
