Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the execution of position management possible in the same manner as in the case of single partition with a magnetic tape of multipartitions.
SOLUTION: The magnetic tape is classified to the plural partitions 143-0 to 143-L. ODAs 1540 to 154-(L-1) used for loading or unloading are formed in the boundary parts of the respective partitions. The values r(0) to r(L) of the record counts indicating the number of record data are recorded in MIC (Memory in Cassette) of the magnetic tape in each of the data areas 152-0 to 152-L exclusive of the ODAs. When the present position in the prescribed partition 143-i is determined from a host computer, the cumulative values R(0) to R(L) of the values r(0) to r(L) of the record counts in the respective partitions are computed and the present position is computed based on the cumulative values and is outputted to the host computer.
