PURPOSE: To reproduce a picture whose aspect ration is larger than 4:3 without difference of picture quality from a center panel and a side panel by correcting a movement detection signal.
CONSTITUTION: The unit is provided with a control signal generating circuit 2 receiving a main signal and outputting 1st and 2nd control signals S1, S2 and a movement detection correction circuit 4 detecting the movement of the main signal and the movement of an output of a time axis processing circuit 7, outputting respectively 1st and 2nd movement detection signals M1, M2 and outputting a 3rd movement detection signal M3 from the 1st and 2nd movement detection signals M1, M2 in response to the 1st control signal S1. Thus a pattern having an aspect ratio longer from side to side than the current aspect ration is obtained to correct the movement detection signal. Thus, the picture whose aspect ratio is larger than 4:3 is reproduced without difference of picture quality from a center panel and a side panel.
