PURPOSE: To inhibit the production of tumor cells without giving serious side effects to a host organism by bringing neoplastic cells into contact with a peptide comprising a specific amino acid sequence included in a perfect sequence.
CONSTITUTION: This method for inhibiting the proliferation of neoplastic cells comprises bringing the cells into contact with a polypeptide of the formula comprising the sequence of at least eight amino acids included in a perfect sequence. The peptide group known as a transformation growth factor type β(TGF-β) controls the growth and differentiation of the cells. The growth- controlling polypeptides can stimulate and inhibit the proliferation of (TGF-β1 and TGF-β2) cells mainly on the basis of the types of the cells. The transformation growth factor called as the TGF-β2 is available from the tomoxetine- supplemented culture medium of human prostatic cancer cells or human lung cancer cells.
