PURPOSE: To obtain an electroluminescent light excellent in moisture resistance and having a high intensity by forming a light emitting layer so that the end portion thereof is bent vertically up or downward relative to a base board to form a wave guide passage, and arranging a light guide portion at the final end portion of the wave guide passage.
CONSTITUTION: A light guide portion 11 is formed by embedding a material of a refractive index higher than that of a transparent base board 1 in a light guide forming section in the base board 1. After grinding the upper and lower surfaces of the base board 1 to make the lower surface of the base board 1 flat, a metallic electrode 2 is formed by coating the portion of the surface other than the light guide portion 11 with Al or the like by vacuum deposition or sputtering. Further, an insulation layer 3, a light emitting layer 4, and an insulation layer 5 are successively coated by vacuum deposition or the like. Here, the end portion of the light emitting layer 4 is bent vertically up or downward to form a wave guide passage at the final end of which is arranged the light guide portion 11. In this case, the insulation layers 3, 5 are formed to be tightly sealed and stopped to cover the end surface of the light emitting layer 4.
