To provide a thin film magnetic head and its production which generate a strong recording magnetic field in spite of a narrow head track width to have a sufficient recording performance even for a high Hc recording medium.
A lower recording chip part 3 and a common shield part 1 constitute a lower magnetic pole, and an upper recording chip part 5 and a yoke part 8 constitute an upper magnetic pole. A high Bs magnetic material is used as materials of lower and upper recording chip part 3 and 5, and a high ρ magnetic material is used as the material of the yoke part 8, and a magnetic material like 'Permalloy(R)' is used as the material of the common shield part 1, and the length of the upper recording chip part 5 is made longer than that of the lower recording chip part 3 (equal to the head gap depth) to increase the area contacting with the yoke part 8 even in the case of the narrow head track. Upper and lower recording chip parts facing each other with the gap part between them are altogether worked to form the head track width.
