Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress curving of the surface of a gap layer by making a prescribed relation between the difference of a height of the upper face of the gap layer in the center line position in the track width direction from a height of the upper face of the gap layer in a position apart from the center line by a prescribed distance in the track width direction and the gap length of the gap layer satisfied.
SOLUTION: When the relation among the difference of the height A, the gap length H1 and a distance H2 between an upper and lower shield layers is expressed by the formula A=H1-H2, if the lower face Mb of a region M is overlapped by the lower face Rb of a magnetization inversion region R1, a corner part Ma1 of the upper face Ma of the region M is present on the upper face R1a of the magnetization inversion region R1. If the gap layer is curved, the relation is expressed by the formula A>H1-H2 and the corner part Ma1 of the upper face Ma of the region M is present outside the upper face R1a of the magnetization inversion region R1. That is, if the relation is expressed by the formula A≤H1-H2, the gap layer has such a range of curvature that the region M is present inside the magnetization inversion region R1 on a recording track and a magnetic head for reproduction can surely clearly read the signal recorded on the magnetization inversion region R1.
