PURPOSE: To prevent a double feed of paper, in a paper feeder of a copying machine or the like, by forcibly contacting a friction rotary body to the uppermost paper at the point end of a paper magazine and forcibly contacting friction members to said friction rotary body in the paper feed direction at a prescribed distance.

CONSTITUTION: Friction members 6, 7 are constituted with their friction coefficient smaller than the friction coefficient of a friction rotary body 5 in its peripheral surface. When paper 4 is fed by the friction rotary body 5, the paper 4 is forcibly contacted to the friction rotary body 5, by the first and second friction members 6, 7. When the paper 4 is doubly fed, the paper 4 located at the side of the friction member 6 causes a slip by a difference of the friction coefficients between the friction rotary body 5 and the friction members 6, 7, and its feed is blocked then the paper is separated. Even if the paper passes through the friction member 6, the paper is similarly applied with separating action by the second friction member 7 and separated. In this way, a double feed can be surely prevented.
