PURPOSE: To obtain a gauge for measuring the specific gravity and level of liquid accurately regardless of shaking of the liquid.
CONSTITUTION: A measuring column 2 having a constant cross-section, a load cell 3, and an air cylinder 4 are coupled rigidly each other. A specific gravity/ level gauge 1 is mounted on a liquid container 10 and the measuring column 2 is inserted vertically into a liquid 7 while projecting the upper part from the liquid surface. The load cell 3 detects the difference of buoyancy caused by variation in the volume of submerged part when the measuring column is moved up and down by means of the rod 6 of the air cylinder 4. Specific gravity of the liquid 7 is then determined based on the volumetric variation and the difference of buoyancy and then the liquid level 8 is measured by calculating the length of submerged part of the measuring column 2 based on the specific gravity of the liquid 7, the weight of the measuring column 2 in the air and the liquid, and the cross-sectional area of the measuring column 2.
