Abstract:
PURPOSE:To lower pressure drop and to sufficiently remove malodorous gases by using the metal oxide-attached active carbon formed by molding a carbonaceous raw material to a honeycomb shape, carbonizing the molding and activating the molding in an atmosphere of a specific steam content, then cooling the molding down to a specific temp. to deposit oxides contg. specific metals at a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:The carbonaceous raw material is molded to the honeycomb shape and the molding is activated in the atmosphere of a steam content of <=15vol.%, and thereafter, the molding is cooled down to <=300 deg.C in this atmosphere, by which the oxides contg. one or more kinds selected from a group consisting of iron, chromium, nickel, cobalt, manganese, copper, zinc, magnesium and calcium are deposited at 0.1 to 20wt.% on the metal oxide-attached active carbon. Such active carbon is used as a deodorant. This honeycomb-shaped metal oxide-attached active carbon is formed to the honeycomb shape and is, therefore, extremely low in pressure drop. Since the catalyst has a high function as an oxidizing catalyst at ordinary temp. and low temp. as well, the catalyst has an excellent ability to oxidize and remove the malodorous gases, such as methyl mercaptan and trimethyl amine.
