PURPOSE: To remove water from a mixture of solid and water easily by charging the mixture of solid and water to liquid which is immiscible with water and has higher specific gravity than water, separating the aqueous phase therefrom, and removing the liquid from the solid-liquid phase.

CONSTITUTION: Waste water 18 contg. suspended matter is introduced through a stirrer 21 with a pump 19, and injected into liquid 2 such as trichloro trifluoroethane contained in a liquid storage tank 1 which is immiscible with water having higher specific gravity than water, pref. having lower boiling point, through an injection port 23. Here, the layer 3 of separated water is sent to a water/ liquid separator 25 through a discharge port 24, and separated water 25 is discharged. On one hand, suspended matter 34 transferred to the liquid 2 is transported to a cylinder 9 between a synchronously running filter cloth belt 5 and a transporting belt 6. Here, the suspended matters 34 is heated from the outside of the cylinder 9 by a heater 15 through heat medium oil 17 to evaporate the liquid 2 contained therein while it is transported by a screw 11 and the vapor of the liquid is sent from the outlet of the vapor to a cooling tower 31 where the liquid 2 is recovered, and dried solid is sent into a storage tank 12.
