PURPOSE: To provide an operating device for an elevator allowing a guard car to quickly and safely send a VIP car off and receive it without giving a trouble to a VIP for consideration of guard during the VIP exclusive operation.

CONSTITUTION: A car is set as a VIP car and another car is set as a guard car by a VIP switch, and they are returned to wait (steps S22, S32). The VIP car and the guard car can be distinguished by hall lanterns (steps S23, S33), and the destination floor of a VIP is transmitted between the cars and automatically registered (steps S24, S34). The VIP car is decelerated, and the guard car passes the VIP car to receive it at the destination floor (steps S25, S35). The guard car controls the opening and closing of the door of the VIP car (steps S27, S37).
