Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent mistaken detection of obstacles such as guard rails on the road side, execute the appropriate detection of obstacles by appropriately changing the detecting area when the obstacles are detected with limitation to the area along the vehicle traveling path. CONSTITUTION:A radar unit 4 to detect the obstacles which are present ahead is provided. Constitution is made to predict the traveling path where the vehicle travels, and to detect the obstacles with a radar device with limitation to the area along the traveling path. In addition, a camera to detect the traveling environment of the vehicle on the road, and the specified correction is added in detecting the obstacles within the limited area along the traveling path according to the traveling environment by a correcting means 11. In this correction, for example, the area to detect the obstacles is extended to the other side of the lane when the vehicle is traveling one-sided to the center line on the lane, and the area to detect the obstacles is extended to the other lane side when another lane adjacent to the lane of the vehicle in the same direction is available.
