PURPOSE: To read picture data from an optional line with simple configuration by storing the picture data to a page memory from the backward address of the memory, implementing specific arithmetic operation based on number of picture elements per line and reading the picture data from the page memory.
CONSTITUTION: Picture data comprising X-sets of picture element numbers per one line are stored in a page memory 5 comprising 2n sets of picture elements per line from backward addresses. M/X=N is obtained in the page memory 5 based on a least common multiple M between 2n and X by a least common multiple control section 7 of a memory access control section 1. Then a line number L receiving an access request is obtained from 1+N(k)≤L<1+N (K+1) and 1+N(k) or 1+N(K+1) is used for an access start address and picture data are read from the page memory 5, where K is 0 or a natural number. Thus, the line is managed with simple circuit configuration employing a latch and a multiplexer only and the page memory is effectively utilized.
