Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a quinone useful as an active oxygen remover, antiasthmatic agent, hepatic failure treating agent, etc., in a high purity and yield on an industrial scale by oxidizing a specific derivative of 4-alkoxyphenol having excellent storage stability.
CONSTITUTION: This quinone of formula IV is obtained by oxidizing 4- alkoxyphenol derivative of formula I {R1 is a (halogenated) lower alkyl, cycloalkyl, lower alkoxyalkyl, aryl, allyl, cycloether, aralkyl, lower alkylsilyl, arylsilyl or triphenylmethyl; R2 is H, a lower alkyl or lower alkoxy or adjacent two of R2 may form saturated ring or aromatic ring; R3 is H, a lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, group expressed by formula II [(n) is 1-12] or group expressed by formula III}.
