This invention deals with novel polysilazane polymers, a method for their preparation, and the ceramic materials prepared thereby. The method comprises reacting a halogen-containing monosilane with a cyclic silazane or mixture of cyclic silazanes. An example of such a material is one which is prepared by the reaction of HSiCl3 and {(CH3)2SiNH}x.
