Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a pyrrole polymer useful as an electrochromic material by polymerizing a pyrrole derivative having an organometal substituent in the position 1 of a pyrrole ring through oxidation. CONSTITUTION:This polymer is one having repeating units of formula I (wherein X is SinR2n+1 or GenR'2n+1, Y is H, R or R', R and R' are each an alkyl, an aryl, an aralkyl or a halogenation product thereof, n is an integer of 1-3, and 1.0>=X/N>=0.1). It assumes red or reddish purple in a doped state, yellow in a dedoped state and red or reddish purple in an intermediately doped state. This polymer is produced by dissolving a pyrrole derivative of formula II together with an electrolyte in a solvent, pouring the formed solution into an electrolytic cell, immersing electrodes in this solution and subjecting it to polymerization through electrolysis by anodic oxidation or cathodic reduction or to polymerization through chemical oxidation with a halogen, a metal halide, a proton acid or a peroxide.
