PURPOSE: To arrange each track information write starting position, by storing in advance the extent of shift in each circumferential direction of plural heads, and adjusting the number of bits of gap information by the extent of shift corresponding to a selected head number.

CONSTITUTION: A head shift-extent storing circuit 12 stores in advance the extent of shift in each circumferential direction of plural heads incorporated in a recording device 2, and sends the extent of shift of a head corresponding to a head number given from a head number storing device 13, to a write controlling circuit 11. Also, the circuit 11 considers the extent of shift given from the circuit 12, decides the length of a gap to be written, loads gap information on a signal line group 22 in accordance with a track start point detecting signal given from the device 2, and sends out a write instruction through a signal line group 21. Subsequently, it sends out gap information of the number of bits corresponding to the gap length, and after that, successively sends out information to be stored.
