PURPOSE: To avoid the generation of excessive bending stresses on ceramic pipes by a method wherein the heat transfer pipes of the titled heat exchanger are formed by the ceramic pipes and an outlet side header which is capable of expansion and contraction is provided on a heat exchanger mounting member so as to move freely.
CONSTITUTION: The ceramic heat transfer pipes 4 and 4' are connected to a communication duct 5 fixed to a heat exchanger mounting member 7' and the inlets of the pipes 4 and 4' are connected to inlet and outlet headers 3 and 3', respectively. The upper parts 4a and 4a' of the pipes 4 and 4' are loosely fitted to the heat exchanger mounting member 7 through sealing materials 10 and 10' and the headers 3 and 3' are made movable on the mounting member 7 through slide members 9 and 9' which are provided with balls 9a and 9a' provided in the outer walls of the headers 3 and 3', respectively. It is preferable that such slide member mechanism is provided in both of the headers 3 and 3' but if necessary, it may be provided only in the outlet header 3' requiring it most. Thus, with the above structure, the heat transfer pipes are made to expand and contract freely so that no bending stress generates thereon and the durability of the pipes is improved.
