Title:
ACTIVATED ZINC SPONGE AND ITS MANUFACTURE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6039131
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To manufacture the activated zinc sponge having high replacement activity and a long service life by adding metallic Mg to a zinc chloride soln. to form fine powder of the metallic zinc, then removing the excess metallic Mg, and regulating appropriately the pH to separate solids from liquids.

CONSTITUTION: The metallic Mg in the form of lumps, etc. is added into a zinc chloride soln. having preferably about 50W300g/l concn. and about 1W2pH to form fine powder of metallic Zn by electrolytic replacement. The excess metallic Mg is then removed from the liquid by carefully regulating the pH of the liquid not to exceed about 4. Concd. hydrochloric acid is added to the soln. wherein the fine powder of metallic Zn is suspended to regulate the pH within the range of 1W2. The suspended substance is thus coagulated into the form of unstable lumps. The solids are then separated from the liquid to obtain the activated zinc sponge having high replacement activity, a long service life, and many fine through-pores.
