PURPOSE: To prevent stains on a separation belt and a transfer paper by providing an illumination light source for illuminating the face of an original to be copied, and a variable reflector for reflecting a part of illumination light and exposing the region of the surface of a photoconductive layer in contact with the separation belt.
CONSTITUTION: The image of an original placed on an original platen is illuminated with an illumination lamp unit 7. A mirror face or a white reflective plate 39 are installed at the position C capable of forming a length of separation blank necessary for a separation belt. The plate 39 reflects light of the unit 7, and on the other hand, it is movable, and it can form a constant width of separation blank. As a result, stable separation can be executed, consumption of a toner can be saved, and stains on the separation belt and a transfer paper can be prevented.
